I'm a big fan of corporate sponsorship to prove the endurance and capability of a vehicle. And I really thought the Camel Trophy was a decent proof of capability.

But what is the new G4 going to be like? I have read what LR has on the LR site. It is not very detailed. It kind of sounds like it will be a promotion more than a cross country adventure.

Does anyone have any insight into what is planned? Just curious. I hope they can match the grit of the Camel sponsored event.

I don't think it's gonna match the grit of the Camel Trophy but here is what I no about it. I will be taking place in 4 areas, each area will use a different model rover. The Freelanders will be used in the New York state area, Defenders in Africa, Range Rovers in South America (someone correct me if I am wrong on this one, not 100% sure on the location) and Discoverys in Moab. They will be doing "extreme" (just for you Kyle) sports and other stuff along the way but hopefully there will be more emphasis on the driving than they have in the Ford "No Boundaries" bull-shit. The best thing is that it is going to be televised on the Discovery Channel. I get the impression that it is definitely going to be more of an adventure than a promotion but unfortunately it seems like it will be geared more to the short-attention-spanned-survivor-watching-drones that make up the vast majority of the television viewing audience today, hopefully I will be proved wrong.

I understand there will be three areas of focus, international team building, demonstrating urban use of vehicle (perhaps the Freelander), and a tread lightly responsible 4WD use theme.

Judging by the applicant form questions, it does seem like it is headed towards the "Survivor" format.

I thought about filling out the application until I saw that they wanted a photograph. What's up with that? Not that I'm an ugly cuss, but it makes me wonder what the objectives of the selection process might be.

They also asked several questions about past TV or movie experience? Sounds like an acting job more than an off road challenge.

I might still send in an application though, it would still be cool to take part in anything where you get to trash a new vehicle on someone elses dime.

I tried to fill out the online application. However, if you don't use Windows and IE6, Land Rover doesn't want you participating.

I wrote them and told them to have their "webmaster" read "Web Pages that Suck"

I got back a "blah, blah, blah ,tough" reply.
