my disco I has had a stiff steering problem since purchased. first thing I did was replace the stock damper with an OME as the orig was dented. that didn't fix anything. I then put a new PS pump on (old one was noisy) and that helped slightly. I then put a new PS box on (old one was leaking and I thought seized), that helped more, but still not totally right. after the new PS box the OME damper came off and it steers easy like it should without the damper. just wondering if I got a bad OME damper along the line? I know it should be a little stiffer, but not like this. any thoughts? |

I'd try returning the "new" damper. It sounds like you've eliminated the pump, box, and linkage. I suppose you could cycle the steering with the damper off in the driveway to confirm the damper as the culprit. How bout moving the damper by hand like an old shock (that's what it probably is). If it moves thats probably not your problem either. The try Paul Schram. |
