in my scouring of bone yards I'v seen about 2 dozen that have had what appears to be really hard impacts and a good number that appeared to have rolled.

I am very convinced that the body is a serious ass box that is hard pressed to get really messed up. they can look really messed up on the outside and still have very little change in the internal compartment.

I think thats one reason they have such a devote following...they are kinda like a 4 wheel drive volvo 200series wagon.

pretty good. i can post of pic of my old '94 that met a tree at about 40 mph or so head on. we all walked away with minor bruises.

Time for Tommy to post him crash pics again.....his entire family, to include the toddlers, were in the car at the time. Scary, but I think it will encourage you.

Seems to be quite good from my little fender bender. Going 40 mph when a car crossed the intersection in front of me. My damage (currently at $4,000) was all exterior with the exception of radiator supports. What was funny is the passenger headlamp hit the Corolla straight on and it just had a scratch on it, although it was hanging from the socket! I bought my '99 D1 after hearing they're very solid and needing protection against these Houston maniacs!

Damn right I have owned two DI's and let me tell you they are very tough. On my 97 with a genuine LR wrap around brush guard. I hit a deer left front corner about 55 and the only damange I had was a busted headlight and a broken grill thats it. I also work for a small PD in NC and whenever someone hits or is hit by a LR DI,DII or Range they all come out on top

ok ok... twist my arm. :)

i rolled my 97 DI last Oct (2001) on the interstate going 55mph with my family in it. my wife and i had a few glass cuts from crawling through the glass, and my 2 kids were 100% fine. these photos were taken the day after the wreck.

I bought a 2001 DII to replace my 97. I am convinced that my family is safe inside the disco's.

I have been to hundreds of vehicle accidents both minor, major and fatal. I guess the results depend on the obvious factors such as speed, type of impact and especially the other vehicle involved if more than one. My observations conclude that the newer vehicles (past 10) years are designed very well against most impacts and have the entire car crush so that the passenger compartment stays more intact. I would think that the discoveries would also hold up based on the posts in here, over the years, and some of the pics. Keep in mind, seatbelts, airbags and lack of speed are the most important factors. There will be some accidents that no matter how you approach them in the form of safety, a collision with a bigger vehicle, rollover's or just plain luck will play the most important roll on survivability. I've peeled back alot of metal over the years and have been completely surprised on many occasions regardless of the vehicle. Drive safely, smartly and use the vehicle restraint systems. Obviously, in some cases, the bigger the vehicle involved, the better. Then again, sometimes those don't do so well.

Don't Land Rovers have internal roll bars, or at least the D2. I remember seeing in the LR Journel for 2000 it says that the D2 has steel bars between the frame and the exterior panels. (I don't mean the side impact beams in the doors!!)
