I have a '96 D1 with 95k at present. I have put 11k trouble free miles since purchase a year ago. Runs great, but recently I notice an intermittent knock upon start up for about 1 minute before it warms up. Sounds like it may be piston slap - seems to be located in the right hand cylinder bank. Just wondering if anyone else out these experiences same, and should I be preparing for a block overhaul, new pistons etc?? Rob |

I have experienced the same thing. Did does not happen very often. The local Rover shop said it could be a bad lifter or worn cam. The truck is a 96 D1 with 64K on it. I replaced the valley gasket this weekend and the cam and the lifters looked fine. When I started the truck for the first time after the repair, I heard a knock on the right side. It wentaway and all is quite for now. |
