I have a 95 Disco and have suddenly developed a grinding noise. Not during braking, just during turning. I would know what to do if I were feeling any surge in the brakes, or play in the steering wheel, but other than setting off my ABS, everything works fine. I have disconnected the ABS, but this grinding noise is killing me. The brakes are perfect, the rotors aren't grooved at all. There is a lot of crap up there that none of my pickups ever had, but I still tend to think that it is bearings. Any ideas? |

My guess... Wheel bearings, or if it just happens when turning, you'd better check the CV on that side. Bill |

In their technical bulletin 0019, Landrover refer to a "creaking/knocking noise from the bulkhead as a result of fatigue cracks in the front bulkhead. I suggest you read my Bulletin Board note "Metal fatigue of the firewall in a 300Tdi" which I posted at 7.06 am on November 1, 2002. If the mounting has collapsed, the body will grind on the chassis. I would expect the noise to coincide with road bumps. |
