Hey guys,
Just wondering if you'd consider this a bow wave...

JR,
Did it run after you got to the other side?

dunno..

it reminds me of that righteous safari snorcle video clip with the isuzui that gets swirled around a creek and the hole damn truck is basically under water except where the snorcle is. that guy drives away (how far who knows)

Very cool exterior roll cage. Where to get one of those, anyone know?

Heck yeah it ran!...
Well, at least for about half an hour. It shut off on me randomly going up a hill. Believe it or not I got her started up again by resetting the inertia switch. However, a day and a half later she shut down again in downtown Wilmington (NC). After pushing it into a parking lot and letting it dry out for the night she started up fine and has been purring ever since. Gotta love a Rover.

Michael,
It's kinda hard to explain but if you take I-40 like you're leaving Wilmington going to Raleigh, take the 420 exit (huh huh... huh huh) and then take a right on 420. At your first stop light take a left and then you have to cut through one of those subdivisions. There's a perfectly clear lake with a huge sand field, hill climbs, and a few minor trails. It's a good place to take a cooler and hang out for a day. Beats the hell out of crowded Wrightsville Beach, and as far as I can tell it's not even illegal. Happy surfing!
Later.

Kowabunga duuude!!!

..hehe, kind of looks like something I would do, but not on purpose ;-)

This is good:

Having been to that lake many times it is called the UNCW lake, which by the way is now county owned and illegal to go to. It was always illegal just too far for the campus police to babysit on a regular basis. Now that the sheriff is back there they use atv and other 4x4s to ticket trespassers. It is a great place to do as you said drink beer and take the dogs for the day. I am sad too see it go, as it has some fun little hills to climb. The road 420 is Gordon rd., the left turn is Harris road, and the subdivision is Saratoga place, drive till the pavement runs out and that is when the fun begins. Drop me an email if you are planning an off roading excursion. Also look at the local map and try plantation road, it is about a mile from the uncw lake great place also for mud after the rain.

Damn the Man!
I'll certainly email you if I'm in the area again and ready to go play. Unfortunately, I live in Raleigh during the summer and I go to school in VA. Given the gas mileage on these trucks and the price of gas these days, my roadtripping has been severely limited. Thanks for the insight and warning about UNCW lake.

(P.S.- I just got done suffering through the damned diff guard post. I feel 10% dumber.)

Yep - been through that same place and made my own wave a few times myself. It is cool to look out your windshield and see nothing but a wall of water. For those of you that are wondering - the opposite bank picks up quick right after the point the pic was taken and you come out fine. However, if you miss a little to the lake side it gets deep quick and you can find yourself ass-down in 5 feet of water (ask how I know).

BTW - I too am always up for some offroading in the Wilmington area - any of you guys just e-mail me (or Aaron - I live 4 houses down from him).

Marc,
That picture was what happens when you get too lakeside... Shortly after it was taken my truck stopped (at which point I said one choice f-word), then roared to life and hauled ass out of at least 4 feet of water. I was still on the downslope when the pic was taken. I wish I had known you guys were down there when I was down almost every weekend this summer. Such is life...

JR,
that place is practically in my back yard - we went there all the time until this past summer - now it is being developed (park park, part subdivision). We will be on the look out for new spots - let us know if you make it back down.

seems to be a lot of people on this post from wilmington. i go off road every weekend and im always looking for some people in town with rovers to go off road with. the people i usually go with have trucks with tires bigger than me and it kinda sucks. actually mark, i was supposed to call you a couple weeks ago. this guy neal who lifted my brothers jeep gave me your number. ive been to Lake 420 a couple times. this is nice, cause i was beginning to think i was the only person who took his rover off road here. if anyone is interested, give me a call here @ 297- 8653. i have some pics from around town on a website my buddy and i are doing. www.particlemass.com check it out. BTW, the pictures on the website are under explorer, not pictures, dont ask me why, he puts the site together not me.

Grover -
I am always willing to go - just give me a ring (I guess Neil gave you my number) or drop an e-mail. Also, always available for an emergency extraction - keep my number handy - you never know.
