What the hell is up with this? Dealer quoted me a price of about $300 - something about clearing the emissions out? Is this something we can do ourselves?

Hmmm. When I was last at my dealer, I asked what was involved in the 52K service. They told me it was simply an oil change for $49. They recommended that I do it myself.

Amen to that. I can live with a light staying on and just saving the $300. More dealer BS.

It costed me $27.00 for the dealership turn the "Check Engine" light off. What a racket!

My light hasn't come on as of 53k+ miles. Could this be a problem?

The "Service Engine" light is easy to turn off. Assuming the D2 and D1 are similar. I did this on my D1. The emissions reminder box is located in the passenger footwell behind the kick panel. It is a red square box with a multiplug connected. Lift the box straight up, it is on a small metal hanger, disconnect the multiplug, and you will see a Land Rover Sticker on the top. In the center of the sticker is a hole (hidden initially). Use a straight piece of wire and gently push it into the hole. There are two pieces of metal that form a circuit. The straight wire will temporarily break the circuit and reset the "Service Engine" light. Hook it all back up and make sure it is out (Start Engine) before reassembly.

On mine, the little brown box is beneath the passenger seat. I use a little pocket screwdriver to make the connection as it works far better than a paper clip.

How about the 45,000 mile service on DII? I hear it is changing the serpentine belt, oil change and then general fluid check/fills etc????

yea they replace it at 45K - my serpentine belt is cracked but they said that is normal - just had the 37,500 done. They supposedly measure number of cracks per inch. I bet these would last alot longer but probably a precautionary measure. How easy is it to do your self? I don't own a torque wrench.

I just realized, Blue doesn't have a picture of the box! So there is part of his truck he hasn't photodocumented!

and I just realized that this thread is about a D2, not a D1. So ignore my advice!
