I noticed that quite a few of you who have D1's have cut your front skirt off. I know the reason why but just wondering if it's made any difference in handling/performance as I'm assuming they were originally put there for some type of handling reason...or maybe just for looks? A |

I'm one of the odd balls here. I keep mine on for daily driving, and take it off when i go wheelin'. Granted I'm an east coaste guy and don't get to go wheeling to much. I've got it down to about 10-15 minutes and it's off. I just bought someones precup endcaps and take the skirt (or air dam) off and put the cut endcaps on. I figure with all the highway driving i do with it, and extra aerodynamics i can get help. Granted we're basically driving bricks though |

Yea, the front end gets all floaty at freeway speeds from the air getting under the front end. Seriously... no change at all to handling, wind noise, mpg, etc. I personally think LR put it there cuz it's purdy. Todd |

I just dinged mine up on the trail last weekend. It already was a little pushed from encounters with some snow banks a couple of years ago. Other than fro holding the driving lights, I'm not sure what purpose it serves. |

yeah its just for looks, mostly to make the fog light housings look good i got my rover up to 145 one time and the upward wind force almost caused me to flip, i went and put the air dam back on the next day sorry been studying for awhile and I needed an outlet. |

Ahhhh, so taking those mud-flaps off increased your top speed I see. |

So...what I'm hearing is, yes, there is a minor effect on handling but at high speeds. Otherwise, under normal driving, no real noticeable effect. |

actually i flipped my truck as soon as i took them off. i floored it and you know how that massive 4.0 can just floor you back in your seat. The mud flaps were acting as a wheelie bar all this time and well sadly to say this time it wasn't there and so it flipped. but seriously the mud flaps only effect handling at high speeds like the air dam so i think if i keep it under 130 mph. I'm good. Thanks for the concern for my safety though Carter, lol. |

Alan, Blake and I are just messing around, removing the air dam shouldn't effect the handling no matter how fast you are going, it MIGHT give you a little more wind noise but thats about it. Oh, and FYI: Joking about crazy increases in performance and offroad ability after removing mud-flaps is a pretty common joke around here, just in-case you were wondering about that to. Although my disco DID start running on diesel when I took mine off |

LOL...yea, figured out the mud-flap one. Wasn't too sure about the skirt one tho...kinda thought you guys were messin' around but wasn't sure. Thanks anyway. |

well if you decide to get rid of it (looks better with out it IMHO) dig through the archives and should find all the info you could ever need to know on the matter, or if you can't find it for some reason just ask. |

YOU SHOULD be able to find it because i had a thread on it when i didn't know how to do it. That was my first mod. My lil rover is growing up |

Carter, i should have known that before. fueled up my jeep with diesel a year and a half ago, and guess what? - it didn't run all that well. i didn't know it was so simple - just install land rover mudflaps, and voila! for whatever it's worth, i still have 5 gal of diesel fuel sittin' in my garage taking' up space. need'em? peter |

no, no, no, you have to UNINSTALL the mud flaps to make it run on diesel!!!! |

Taking OFF the mudflaps might make it run on diesel, but leaving the mud flaps ON increases ground clearance by atleast 2 inches. sometimes 3. |

Say good by to the air dam. Looks better with out and you can sell the foglights on E bay to some pavement fool to help finance the next upgrade. |

Yesterday I trimmed my bumper end caps and was going to trim them straight across and remove the air dam. My brother-in-law suggested that I leave the air dam because in his view it serves a very important purpose: it's sort of like a sacrificial canary, telling you that what is tearing off your air dam might also do damage to your steering stabilizer, etc. if you keep going. :-) |
