Ok, Before I haul it back into the dealership is there anything I can check myself? Brand new 2003 Discovery about 50 miles on it. The temp gauge slowy started to creep (about 45 min) into the Hot area than eventually hit red. Checked the coolant level ok, looked for any leaks nothing. Fan on the radiator working. TIA |

If it were me I'd drive it back to the dealer and ask for another Disco. 50 miles and you've already had it in the red, not a good sign. |

Thermostat stuck closed? Air bubbles in the coolant? Low oil? I was about a quart low once and temp went up (not to the red), adding oil fixed it. It seems these engines are sensitive and need clean, plentiful oil. That said, I'm with Jay... |

Call roadside and have them tow it in. Likely stuck thermostat. Ron "if it ain't broke --- its not a rover" |

I would take it back. Get a new one. No reason for it to be that way. |
