hello, I need some opinions regarding my T-case (96 DI 61,200 mi.). The T-case has a loud whine to it whenever I am accelerating and have my foot on the gas. It starts about 15 mph all the way up to highway speed, but it a little less notciable at the higher speed cause of the tire noise. It had a little whine since I bought the truck with 48,xxx on it but seems to have gotten worse in the past 6 months. I have tried using half 80/90 and half Lucas gear oil but it didnt quiet down. It gets pretty noisy and sometimes I have to turn the radio all the way out to drown out the noise. Do I need a new T-Case or does anyone use an additive I can try? My 97 DI with almost 80k has no such noise, knock on wood. Thanks for all your help Tim |

Are you sure its the T case? What else have you done to ensure its not a ujoint or CV? Does the noise change in pitch and modulation with speed? what about if its in low gear, etc.... |

i agree with ed, it could also be the bearings or the ebrake might need adjustment. |

My vehicle ('96 Disco 5spd) makes a sound like it's turbocharged when I press on the gas. In fact, I've even had friends ask me if the engine is turbocharged, as it sounds exactly like that and only happens when you give it heavy gas. Except of course it doesn't ACT like it's turbocharged. At the risk of using the name of Eddie Bostock (Land Rover Unlimited) in vain, he drove my vehicle and gave me some technical explanation of how this is "normal". Not being technically inclined, I unfortunately forgot what said explanation was. It sounds, though, like your whine is getting worse so it's probably not normal. Could it possibly be an exhaust leak? |

the fact that lucas did not help leads me to believe that it could be a diff or wheel bearing. If it is the t-case it could just need an output bearing. Chock the wheels and get under there and see what moves that shouldn't Ron |

Vehicles can develop noises like this and go on forever. You might try switching to synthetic which will be a little quieter. |
