There seems to be a problem between the engine and the tranny on my 97 disco. The rpm will increase to above 3000rpm with no subsequent increase in speed. Is there something I can check?
Thanks

it is freewheeling?
Does it only happen when cold?
Does normal operation resume shortly thereafter?

More details please

Happens cold/hot usually above 3000rpm and going up hills or flooring the gas pedal. Physically feels like the car is slowing down until you let up on the gas and it engages the tranny at lower rpm and resumes normal speed.

sounds like you may have a restriction in your exaust, or cats, Does the exaust come out in a modulating flow at idal, or does it come out smooth? if smooth, restricted exaust, if pulsing, possible tired trans, How many miles???

Sounds like it's kicking out of overdrive?

Try the same hills but manually engage third or second before you go up hill and tell us what happens
