How much steering wheel play should I have at 62,000 miles?

The vehicle is a 1999 D1. The only suspension modifications are OME MD springs and shocks.

I off-road about once a month, with 245/75 MTR's on NATO rims. That's a heavy combination, and combined with my aggressive off-road fun, is it possible that I've "ruined" the steering box?

With the MTR's at highway speed the wander is TERRIBLE. With the stock wheels and 255/65 street tires, it's noticeable but not nearly as bad. I've had the local LR dealer check out the steering. LR wouldn't cover a new steering box under their extended warranty.

What could be the cause of this? What should I do about it? Are there "heavy duty" steering boxes I can fit, or is it something besides the box?

Any help would be appreciated.

I had a terrible wander on the road after the lift. I had it re-aligned and all was better.

Thanks,
