There seems to be many ways to improve drop travel on the rear of discoverys but not much for the front. Bushing bind in the radius arms seems to be alot of the problem. But if that were corrected, which direction, up or down, is there room for more wheel travel?

Have you seend the hinged radius arms? Or a 3-link?

You can get more up travel, but it would be equal to the amount of lift you have. You can also put Rancho 9014 shocks in the front which have 10" of travel vs stock 8" travel. The 9014s have the same mounts as stock, so it is easy to do.

As far as front radius arm bushings are concerned, stick with rubber. I have tested the durometer of all the polyurethane bushings and found that even the "soft polys" are firmer than stock.

There is a big curved washer on the chassis to radius arm mount. If you reverse that curved washer then the front will flex a little more.

In order to really get some flex in the front you have to move away from the solid rod chassis mounts. Take a look at the DiscoII control arm to chassis mounts(same arm front and rear). The DiscoII mounts have more potential for drop than the arms which had been used in the front for the prevoius models.

Randall the biggest thing that limits that front axle is not the chassis bushings it is the ones at the axle.

Stock (with shot rubber bushings) i can get ~10in of travel out of a front axle. You want more you got to go 3 link or hinged.

Ron

I have got the hinged front arm, and as far as I can tell there is no problems(except tire rub on thicker arm). Actually if flexes so much that my wheels even hit the brake lines. You could easily get 12 or 14 front travel with the hinged arm. But this year I will upgrade axles/diffs and the engine instead.
