I'm having a problem with water build up on the passenger side footwell. The little cover that covers the wiring under the dash has been ruined by water, and I don't know where it's coming in from. Someone suggested the sunroof drain may be clogged, but I don't know where that is or how to unclog it. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanx... |

There are two drains in the front of the sunroof. There is one in each of the front corners of the sunroof. Easiest way to see them is by getting up on a ladder and peering in with a flashlight while the sunroof is all the way open. The drains run down the inside of the A pillar and spill out onto the ground. Are you running your AC quite a bit? Do you see two drip spots on the ground right about where the transmission is? If not, the A/C drains might be clogged. Crawl up under the car and look at the transmission tunnel (under side of the car). There will be two small teets towards the front (search the archives for a picture and more info). There are very hard to find. You need to squeeze them to see if they are clogged. Be sure to lay off to the side when you squeeze. Be careful sticking a wire up there to clear them as you can easily puncture the drain tubes. I'd use a long zip tie up there to clear the clog. Next source could be the rubber gasket around the top of the windshield. They have a habit of leaking. Try having someone blast the car with water at the top of the windshield and see if you can see fresh water coming in. Probably removing the kick panel, glove box, and that black facia will make it easier to spot the source. The next source could be water coming in through the firewall itself. There is a flat tray on top of the firewall. If water builds up there, it will overflow down into the footwells. I get water in my D1 everytime I clean the shelf on the firewall. Best of luck finding your leak. Thanks, Mike B. |

you clean out the drains with compressed air. You can buy a rubber attatchment for a compressor that will make an airtight seal with the top of the tube. oh yeah you will have to do it from the top. so open the sunroof jump up on the ladder or if your skinny reach up and in. you will know when it is clear because muck will blow all over the place. |
