I have a 99D1 and it has a fog light switch, at least I think that is what it is. It's a headlamp symbol with a wavy line in front of it. And it has what looks like an indicator lamp, like the rear defroster. It's on the left hand button cluster near the steering wheel. Anyway, if that is what it is, can I use it to control my Hella driving lights? Where can I pick it up in the wiring? Is there an empty relay socket somewhere? |

If it is like the D1, I think you are talking about the European fog lights. It makes your tail lights brighter in poor weather/low visibility. Depending on the winter weather where you live you may want keep the hook up. If you want to keep both, you could use an electro-tap (like in IPF light installations)or something like that. They are easy to use and a hardware store should have them. Just find out the color pattern of the wire to the fog light switch and you could probably tap into the wire under the steering column where the fuse box is. |

I really would not suggest tapping into the rear-fog light circuit and using them to power something else until you know for certain how much power that switch can hold and you know exactly why you want your rear-fogs and hellas to always come on at the same time. |

Yep, the switch below the defroster is the rear fog-light switch. The front fogs used a switch that would be next to the master cruise-control switch. There's not an empty relay for it. You could use it to trigger your driving lights, but you'd have to splice to do such, and would lose your rear fogs. I'd recommend just using a switch in the usual cluster next to the cruise, FWIW.... -L |
