The recipe that I know is to melt a wax toilet-bowl seal into chainsaw oil.....

Dead-on duplicate of the genuine Waxoyl.

I own a 67 MGB and have run into the Waxoyle recommendations too. Besides the undercarriage, Ive heard of also spraying it into any area that you can access with a sprayer nozzle, with some folks drilling holes into the tops of the rocker panels, or any other area prone to rust and spraying Waxoyle in. My concerns are that unless this were started when new, you might cause more rusting with this goo, and with modern day galvanizing and painting, Im not sure what it would help. Not to mention most manufacturers offer some type of rust through protection on the bodywork, so Im not sure I would go to the trouble. I have a 2001 Discovery and have never read any of the bodywork warranty info, so I don't even know what Land Rover covers. A lot of older British cars could be undercoated by the dealer whereby a rubberized or tar product was applied when the car was new. This offered some degree of rust protection and a little soundproofing, but it never lasted too long. Again, I never reapplied any for fear of trapping rust and moisture. I think the best thing to do is keep the fenders and underside clean with a high-pressure spray. Gotta love the British, maybe Waxoyle is just a tradition, like oil leaks and electrical issues!

Maybe that is the old "undercoating" that you used to here the dealers talking about, yes?

WAXOIL IS MANUFACTURED BY FINNIGANS IN THE UK .
I WOULD THINK THAT IT CONTAINS MAINLY CANDLE WAX AND WHITE SPIRIT AND A RUST INHIBITOR.
