Hi all - Series 1 Disco - 95. Last night with heater not on I had water blasting all over my feet on driver side (right hand side facing the to the front of the car). Is it a buggered heater box or could it be something simplier like a blocked drain? Cheers all. Scott from OZ |

Sounds like you blew the heater core. I changed my in my 88RRC, huge pain the the backside. I had to pull the entire dash. -John |

i just finished the same problem last week on my '94. extremely huge pain in the butt. however, don't go to the extremes cited in the hayne's manual. i did the entire job dropping only the glove compartment, under-dash, and center console. you do not have to rip the dash, steering column, air bags, or air-lift the body off of the chassis as the manual would have you do. ;) |

Kevin, I ended up taking to a dealer this morning - the job is big and I am stuck for time. It was good to see that they think outside the square - instead of replacing with the $400 (Australian) original aluminium core they get copper ones fabricated that last forever and are about $180.00. The labour is the killer though - about $400. But at least I will get it back on the road. Apparantly the problem is usually electrolytic in that the car may get a current leak and cause a reaction in the aluminum - copper does not have that drama. Cheers All |

Check the a/c drains before taking the dash apart. It is VERY common for the a/c drains to clog up. Look on both sides of the trans and you will see both a/c drains. Inside these drains are little nipples that press into them. If you remove these nipples you will probably find that the ends are clogged with organic growth or mud. Another way to clean them is to find the rubber hoses for the drains on either side of the dash and blow compressed air through them. If the inside of the car does not smell like coolant (did not see it in the post) this will probably be the problem. The water was hot because when the drains clog the water builds up until it runs out of the case via the foot ducts but first runs thru the heater core on it's escape path. Most of the time we remove these drains and throw them away on the mall cruisers but you may want to put them back in if going thru heavy mud |

Scott, man, i wish i had known about that copper core before i replaced mine. i definitely never want to do this job again! it's worth the extra 40 bucks for the peace of mind. for what these vehicles cost, they should come with a copper core anyway, particularly if they're going to mount the s.o.b. in the most inaccessible location possible. what really sucks is trying to get all of that fluid drained out of those one-inch thick, one-piece rubber sponges under the carpet. i'm still sniffing residue, and probably will for some time. but at least i'm not having to drive my f-150 anymore. ;) |

Hey all - as it turned out it tested fine. The dealer said it was the seals and has replaced same. He pressure tested it over 3 days and its not leaking. Cheers |
