Unfroze a buddy's CDL this past weekend, as he purchased the truck used and it was never offroaded (it's a 98). Was relatively easy, as just needed to spray some PB Blaster/WD-40 up underneath it, and freed it up pretty well (yeah, i know, got lucky). Locks in low/high unlocked, and low/high locked now. Only issue is the light. When you push the lever all the way in the locked position (both high or low), and hold it there, the light will come on, and it may stay on for a little bit as you drive, but it eventually extinguishes. The lever is still locked, and it hasn't hopped out, so that is fine, but the light does not stay lit. Do you think the sensor for the light may just need some useage (run the lever a few times a week) to become more permanent, or is there another issue that should be considered. Considering we did not have to rip the center console out to unfreeze the lever, we will probably not be inclined to do that now just to get the light lit. Any help or advice, as always, appreciated. The sensor can be accessed from under the truck. What normally happens with the mall cruisers is the diff lock function is never used and a slight sludge builds up inside the t-case. This causes the sensor to stick and sometimes causes the diff lock levers to stick inside the t-case. When they went to synthetic in the Disco II this problem has never happened to me and the diff lock on these vehicles is almost never a problem. If you run synthetic in the t-case for a while it may clean out some of this sludge and make the diff lock eaiser to use. The only draw back to this is that the t-box may become louder (has happened before) but no damage has been noted so far. The synthetic may also encourage leaks in the t-case. |
