My truck has 172,000 miles on it and I'm getting the transmission fluid changed tomorrow. I've heard that it may be better not to change the filter. Something about the new fluid moving faster and causing sliping. Is this true? Thanks |

Sometimes if the fluid is old when you change the filter you disturb to much of the clutch material and then the trans does not work when it gets dislodged and stuck somewhere.. So, don't bother. If it works fine with a fluid change maybe just accelerate the fluid changes in the future. Then again if it has had fluid changes regularly and the fluid in it looks good there is no reason not to change the filter. Ron |

I would not both with the cost of changing the filter unless the current fluid is burnt. It takes a fair amount of labor to get to the filter without the gain. Also make sure that your trans fluid is flushed and just not drained. If you just open the drain plug and refill, you will leave 40% of the fluid in the trans. the flushing is a much more thorough method. |
