I was just about to ask that same question! I may be looking at replacing the U-joint on the rear and then I saw the article about putting a U-joint in the rear, instead of a rotoflex. So I was wondering... You would have to still change to three bolt pattern on the diff to a four bolt pattern. And while we are on the subject, why is the front shaft so much smaller than the rear? Is there really that much difference in torque there? http://landrover.mrbaileyshistory.net |

Well..... First: Most D90s are 5-speeds, where most Discos are automatics.... (but to be fair, '97 NAS D90s are autos, and a few '97 and earlier Discos are 5-speeds). Second, and more importantly: A D90 has a 92.7" wheelbase, whereas a Disco has a 100" wheelbase. So, no, they won't swap. Maybe the front, but I highly doubt it, but no chance on the back, not w/o lengthening it. FWIW... -L |

Fronts swap in. Rears obviously don't. No advantage I can see to a D90 front shaft. Shafts are the same 5 speed to slushbox. Ron |

All US spec Rover front drivesahfts are the same with the exception of the VC Range Rovers (89 on) that are slightly longer and as a result all of them will interchange with this one exception. The front driveshafts are narrower to provide clearance for the catalytic converters found on US rigs. Earlier non US/non cat equipped rigs have a 1.75 inch diameter shaft vs the 1.25 found on the cat equipped ones. non LWB Rangies, Disco 1 and Disco 2 rear drivesahfts are the same length and can be interchanged assuming you factor in the Roto-Flex/non Roto-Flex thing. |
