While driving toward the Stanislaus Nat'l Forest this morning at about the 2000' elevation, my bro's 98 disco started to bog down while accelerating. At first I thought he was playing with the gas pedal, but he told my sister-in-law that it wasn't him, I looked at the tach and noticed that the rpm's were falling about 100 rpm's. It would go from 3k rpm's to 2900, then go back to 3k and so forth. We stopped at the side of the road and took a look under the hood, all looked normal. We started our climb again, but it started to do it again, this time we all agreed to turn back and head home before we get stuck in the middle of nowhere. On the drive home, the motor never skipped a beat. Anyone have any ideas? the disco has about 59,000 miles on it.

Wes..

Check your stepper motor. Also check to see if you have any loose hoses. My mass airflow became disconected once and I found out how important it is to have your stuff tight.

thanks Brian, anyone else have any suggestions as to why this occured? it's a little discouraging when one had all this faith in one of the best vehicles in the world and this happens...

check for a lose plug and plug wire. Same symptoms on mine and I had one plug wire that had broken by the boot...and would make contact but when pushed up a hill I would get the same issue.

good Luck

initially and flat road I was, once we were at higher elevation I stopped. I will have to check to make sure none of the plugs were loose. I guess I'm a bit concerned about the way power was lost, as my bro stated my RPM's came down to exactly the same point everytime and power was lost even while i had my foot down on the pedal. it's as if there was someone playing with the intake.
