I am in the market for another car and just wanted some feedback. I can either lease a 2003 Disco or buy a Used one. Which is the best way to go? And then if I do decide to buy a used one(which I am leaning towards), which one?? Series I or Series II? 5 speed or automatic. As you can tell from my message I am very confused what to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I guess it depends on what you're going to use it for. The D1's don't have all the electronics that the D2's and 2003 have so if you're into fixing things yourself, they're supposedly easier. D1's ride more like a truck and more off-roadish but if you want commuting type vehicle that has more cargo space and more road friendly, then the D2's and 03 are better. It really depends on application of vehicle. D2's and 2003's dimensionally, are at a bit of a disadvantage for off-roading too because of the longer ass but as quite a few on here who have D2's have noted, they still do crazy shit with them.

As fast as these things depreciate there would be a definite advantage to buying used and letting someone else get hit by the majority of it.

Well obviously the newer the better quality and also a warranty. I own two DI's and my 96 has more problems then my 97. But your probably into something a bit newer. I would go with a 99 DI, good build quality, cheaper price (less depreciation), and a little easier to work on. check out BVLR.COM, I have never purchased a truck from there but they have sent me a free tire cover and there stock always seems to be good. Let us know what you decide on. GO D1 !!

Used Used Used, use the money you save for accessories.
but true if your not using it offroad and you have the money i'd go with the 2003 just because its got those sweet headlights. But you gotta see these to go with the '03

If you by one used buy the extended warranty. Trust me, it will pay for itself

On the note of BVLR.com, I live not far from the shop and know most of the crew. They are wonderful mechanics and very affordable. I brought my truck there several times and the level of quality was great. So if you live in the Georgia metro area, look them up and give em a shot.

If you are into off-roading seriously, and you want a D2, MAKE SURE you get one with the CDL bolt. This means some of the later 2001 and 2002 models are no goes.

One thing in favor of the new DII is that 4.6 - one helluva better engine than the 4.0. That would be my reason for new vs used.

If used, I would by a later model DI. Not sure I would pick up a DII without the 4.6.

Jay (who lives near the BVLR.com)

If you have a moment, would you please shoot me an email? Someone who was just talking to me yesterday was asking about them who is looking as well.

Thanks,

USED, most people find that they love their new trucks, but are extremely frustrated with the little quirks and problems that tend to take up a lot of the first 2-4 years of ownership.

After that; your Land Rover should start feeling better about itself, realize that you are not going to sell it to the first yahoo that comes along, its self-esteem and positive outlook will cause it to loose wieght, start exercising, and heal the scars of it's troubled early miles.

Therefore, it is better to buy one with 30-40k mature miles. As long as a personality test and background check come back positive. This way you and your Land Rover can begin a new relationship without the baggage that often comes along with "arranged" ownership. True love, with the knowledge and acceptance of your Land Rovers previous faults, is much better than the cold experience of buying from a slave trader, I mean, dealer.
