FYI - I just purchased a Safety Devices Expedition Roof Rack from Thatched Roof Garage on line. I'm always kind of leery about on line transactions, remember the dot com boom... send us your money and we might send you something like what you wanted... I'm pleased to report that everything went perfectly well. The rack showed up packaged and wrapped well protected from abuse. Everything was there and it was the quality product Thatched Roof said it would be. The rack fit perfect and everyone is happy. By the way, that Expedition rack is substantial. Anyone shopping for a rack should take a look. For a few hundred bucks more than the competition it is built to last, and it looks cool too!! Happy Customer!! |

Alan, Yes it is. And it comes with a sturdy plywood floor. It's like the ones used in the Camel Trophy, except it mounts to the gutter instead of the internal roll cage. I gotta tell you it is one tough duty rack!! Eric |

How much? Is the plywood floor removable? Do you have any pics of your rig with the new rack? |

I don't have any pics yet but the rack is on the Thatched Roof Garage website and also on the Safety Devices website. I'll have pics soon. The cost was $1375 including shipping charges. I live in Utah, which is 600 miles from anything so shipping is not cheap. I checked around at LR dealers for the Adventure rack and it was about $1100 not including shipping. Some aftermarket companies, Wilderness, ARB etc have racks too. But by the time you get the brackets, flooring and stuff it's close to a grand. I think the Expedition is an excellent value, and it's proven tough. Eric |

Eric, How is the Ply fastened to the rack? Trevor |

It is bolted to the bars that go across. There are two plywood sections. The bars have small dog ears that 1/4 inch fasteners go through with nuts on the underneath side. By the way, all the fasteners are stainless, the plywood is the good stuff with some kind of water treatment, and the black finish looks like a powder coat epoxy. It would be very easy to take the plywood off if you wanted to. I need the rack for luggage, so the plywood works great for me. I have three daughters plus a wife, so our family Safari always includes about 400 pounds of luggage. You know the tapestry flower print with silver zippers? Yeah... that's me... haulin down some dirt road with fru fru hangin all over the top of my Rover... such is life! |

Shawn, If you look again at the Rover Connection site, that's the Adventure rack, which is the same one that the dealers carry, too. What Eric bought is Safety Devices' "other" Disco rack, the Expedition rack, which like he described, is the Camel Trophy rack except it is gutter-mounted instead of roll-cage mounted. Rover Connection has an expedtion rack, but it is the Land Rover bolt-together Expedition rack, which is NOT a Safety Devices rack. The Adventure rack is the more common Safety Devices rack, since Land Rover carries it as a genuine part. The Expedition rack is not as easily found, FWIW.... -L |

Leslie, your right, what I purchased through roverconnection was the safety devices "Highlander" names get confusing, I wonder why they rename adventure, I would assume this is done by landrover, didn't know there was another rack till I looked at the Safety Devices site again. my mistake. Shawn |
