ya, but, how is that engine braking on extended steep downhills? And how is that ride on the highway going at 70mph up long inclines?

Well, everything is holding up fine. Steep declines haven't been a real issue, but I'm sure there may be times that it would be. Hills are OK. Sometimes, if I'm putting around I'll have to pull it down into third, but since I run in Sport mode around town, it's not all that bad. Cruising at 70 at 2500 RPM is nice, though.

Offroad everything has held up well. I'm not a heavy footed driver and tend to realize when I'm not going to make it through something, so I don't punish my vehicle unnecessarily.

Ever since I sold my FJ40 I've given up on engine braking. As far as power loss, I think It is a little less then the 265's, but not much. I still have no problem keeping up with traffic going up I-70 from Denver.

255/85 BFG MT on a D1
4.10 gears but stock axles (Agree with Greg on the offroad)
400 rpm higher than stock on the highway
still slows down pulling the trailer uphill
Go with 255/85 and enjoy!
Worry about gears later

285/75/16 Yokohama Geolander AT Plus II. Height is 33.1", width is approx. 12". Very wide footprint. Great for loose stuff, rocks, and beach cruising. Cleans out pretty well in the mud for an "all-terrain" tire. Soft sidewalls, which ride great on road, no problems off-road yet. Very quiet on the road, and very reasonable priced. I paid $110 each at Discount Tire in Charlotte. Highly recommended for a true all purpose tire. I gave up my mud terrains for these because of the ride and noise and haven't regretted it yet.

Hi all, what is the largest tire that will fit on a Disco I spare tire carrier (rear door). Will 255/85s fit?

Thanks

Rick
