I recently purchased a 2000 D2. After closer inspection I noticed one of the alloys was slightly different. It looks like a 16 x 7 inch D1 alloy. I removed it and infact it is 16 x 7. The inside is stamped 7J x 16 x 57AH2.

My questions are:

Is this a D1 wheel? I thought the bolt patterns where different and could not by swapped?

Could any damage results from running it with the other 3 stock alloys besides differential tire wear (tires are new 255/65 Toyo A/T)?

Thanks,

Derek

D1 bolt pattern is different than D2. Maybe the PO busted a rim and replaced with a different size. What size are the other rims? Are the all the same style? Could it be the spare that's on?

The other rims are the originals. I think that they are 16x8's. They are the same as other D2s I have seen around town. The rim in question has a more squared-off look to the spokes, while the others are more rounded. The tire mounted on the 7 inch (right front)does bulge out a little more than the left front with the tires at the same pressure.

I'm inclined not to worry since there doesn't appear to be any vibration or problems tracking. I'm planning a mild lift and larger tires in the near future. I'm a little worried that the mismatch might be more apparent if I ran 265/75's on them.

Maybe I should just buy a set of steel rims?

Is your spare rim the same as the other three or is it steel??? If it is the same switch it and put the smaller on in the spare possition.

On a Disco II it will be the same wheel as the rest of the truck (or at least the original wheels).

It looks like the original spare was stolen or a wheel was damaged and the 16x7 used as a replacement. The spare is an orginal 16x8 with a crappy tire on it. I could switch the rim with the spare if needed. So far no one has indicated that there would be a problem running the 7 inch rim with the originals. The tires all the same 255/65's.

Any other thoughts?

Hmmm. Someone must have found an odd wheel somewhere. As far as I know, all NAS DII's came with 16x8's. Only way to get the 7" is from overseas, or possibly an earlier Range Rover. With the wheel slightly narrower, it is "squeezing" that tire more, causing it to have a slightly larger OD. In the stock size it shouldn't be a problem, but if you ever step up to larger tires, it may be of concern. Get the spare switched and keep the odd ball for the spare from now on.
