I recently purchased a used 97 Disco and was told the front windshield motor needed to be replaced because it was running slow. Caused by having wipers on when wiper blades were frozen to windshield. I replaced the motor with the following results. It only operates at hi speed setting. No low speed or int. speed operation and the wiper motor does not park when shut off, just stops. Have checked fuses 12,13 & 16. I believe I have checked the wiper motor relay but am not sure of it's exact location ( rt side footwell? ). Am still looking for " Multi Functional Unit" and am almost out of ideas. Suggestions would be appreciated. |

It really sounds like you may have not re-connected the motor wires back correctly. With wiper motors the wiring is very critical due to the contacts inside the gearbox. These work in conjunction with the wiper switch on the steering column to allow the wipers to park when shut off. I'd carefully check your wiring. David |

David, The wiper motor I installed was a new, dealer supplied unit. I have rechecked the motor connections and the column switch connections and everything appears to be in good order. Thanks for the suggestion. Do you know what a "Multi Function Unit" is and where it is located in a 1997 Disco? Jerry |

I'm not sure about the location of the Multi Function Unit, but maybe some damage was done when the wipers froze. I'm still trying to get used to Lucas Electrics. They definitely do things a little different. Have you tried doing a search on this forum? Maybe somebody else has had the same problem before. If not, maybe someone with a manual can be of assistance. David |
