Hi guys (and gals),
My name is Pete. Ive just bought my first off roader. We've had two Rangies and a series II Land Rover in the family already, every bastid has a Toyota, plus I wanted a V8 (not easy to come by in a 4x4 in OZ) so the natural choice for me was a Disco, a '94 ES V8 auto to be precise Aaaanyway, a few things after reading the tech board:

Couldnt you mount a second battery in front of the aircleaner where the bottle jack usually lives?

My cruise control has died. I noted someones advice regarding vacuum but couldnt find a pump behind the headlight or a broken airline. Maybe just a switch then?

To the guy who lost drive in his auto, a similar thing happen to me in beach dunes a couple of weeks ago, it was a found to be the "sprag" gear (yeah...of course). Apparently its a common fault with the ZF if you put the box under excessive load in D as apposed to 1 2 or 3. A small mod with an extra spring and a spode angled something-or-other went into mine to prevent it from happening again as its bloody expensive to fix.

Mine seems to have gone through a sump full of oil in only a thousand kays. Its got 120,000 kms on it. this cant be normal can it?

How do I get some more grunt from it? I was under it adjusting the handbrake and noted that the exhaust headers look like twisted up macdonalds straws! Will extractors or whatever help? It feels a bit athsmatic...

And lastly, sitting on around 112kmh, it develops a rythmic, intermittent rumble. Its hasnt been lifted (yet). I'd like to think thats its just a wheel bearing, can anyone put my mind at ease or am I doomed to just leaving my wallet with my local Rover parts dealer?!

I also liked the look of the CB mounting bracket on the website, the one that hooks over the centre console. I would only have one however if it didnt involve making holes in the interior where they were visible? Whats the deal, do you only drill holes under the console rubber? How do I get one to oz?

Oh yeah, I fixed my own sunroof shade clip too with some aluminium, a vice and some silastic! Nice.

Many thanks
Pete

Pete:
To answer one of your questions, yes, you can put your secondary battery in front of the air cleaner.

that's how most of us have done it!

Good luck and enjoy your new truck.

Paul
