Hi,

Me again... I was the guy posting about the front housing fitting a 3.9->4.0.

I'm taking peoples advise and just getting the housing welded and a stock diff for now. Maybe lockers next year $$$. :-)

Anyways... I got the diff today and I'm all excited took the Friday off to work on it. But upon opening the package it was a 3 bolt rather than the 4 bolt that I need.

Question? How hard is it to convert the 3 bolt to a 4 bolt???

I thought changing the internals but that might not do it. Maybe taking the 3 bolt connection off (somehow) then putting in the 4 bolt. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I did search but only a whole bunch of differential guards stuff.. so I tried...

Thanks,

Alex Cabrera

are you saying that you have a third member with a three bolt rotoflex pinion flange and you need the 4 bolt flange style?

you can interchange flanges,on the 4 bolt you will need to put the spacer behind the flange on because the 3 bolt does not use the spacer.if the flange has a bolt holding it on you will need to torque it to 74 ft lbs.(this is important because it is your pinion bearing preload)there is no danger of messing anything up as long as you put the spacer in..

Hi do you have a photo of this flang and spacer?
I had the third member replaced and this spacer was used. I am now having GBR biulding new diffs for me and think I must remove the spacer, but not sure where it's at. Thanks for any help.

Call or email me. I sell a pinion conversion kit with everthing you need. $99 for new flange, new style dust shield, new style pinion seal, spacer, 4 grade 8 bolts and nylocks. Price is less if you want a good used pinion flange and don't want a new pinion seal. What year Rover did the diff come out of to determine the style of dustshield?

Bill's kit is just the ticket.

Everything you need, nothing you don't.

Just a vote of confidence,

Eric

If Alex has the parts from his original diff, does he need anything other than to remove the parts from his original diff and transfer them to the new diff?

The only issue I see is to ensure that the torque is correct when reinserting the three finger flange.

Also, as he is replacing the front diff and the replacement is clearly a rear diff, will this cause him any problems? I doubt it, other than having to transfer the flange.

Blue:
Does he need the kit? Doesn't he have all the parts between the two diffs he has?

If not, by all means, go with Bill's stuff-he has really cool stickers that go well with Discoweb stickers!

Hmmmm....I haven't quite followed everything up there on this thread...if Alex is swapping one diff for another, then he may indeed already have all the parts he needs. He'll just have to swap the flanges too. But, I still think he should go ahead and get the kit for a variety of reasons: 1) who wants a roto-ready diff laying around? 2) Bill D. will supply him with a new flange, seal, spacer, and hardware for a nominal fee.

Oh, so you're not a CB, eh?

A real CB would not even question...

Peace,

unfortunately I'm all too often a CB, but $99 to get a spare diff ready to swap in is worthy (or ready to sell).
