OK, I put on new alt and belt. Disconnected the batt. Of course the radio didn't like that and went into anti-theft mode. Didn't have the code so called dealer and got it. Tried it, didn't work. Called a second time to make sure, got the same code. Tried it again, didn't work. Did the one hour on with the ignition on, then tried. First time through nothing but the beep after the fifth digit, the second time the same but then the CODE word started flashing. Still no radio. Am I doing something wrong here? Any suggestions? Thanks, Ken Oh yeah - '98 DI |

honestly, could be a different radio from the original that matches the vin number. on my 95 that was the case. i ended up pulling the radio and finding the # off the back of the radio and used that to get the code. wasn't till a little while ago that i got the full history report of my truck and there was mention of a radio replacement back in 96. might be your best shot. |

Ken, Going through the same scenario with mine as we speak. I've pulled the radio to get the serial number and will give L/R a call Monday. Hopefully, the radio was replaced and a new code will do the trick. Al |

Drive to the dealer, have them pull the radio while you wait and let them deal with the problem. I just went through the process of the radio code being the wrong one. Luckily I phoned the dealer and they were able to give me the right one. Last note...verify you have the VIN correct and that the dealer has the right VIN |

Ken, Called in the serial number this AM and got a new code from LR. Hopefully, your problem will be resolved as easily. Marty, would the dealer provide this service at no charge for an out of warranty vehicle? Al |

I went thru this as well with my Rangie, couldn't get the code to work, had the dealer take a look at it when it was in for service and they pulled the head and declared the radio fried.....had to get a used radio, haven't had a chance to get it in yet, waiting for BMW radio tool to arrive to remove head. |

quick fix: uninstall radio yet again. turn upside down to reveal serial number and manufacturing data. take 3 running steps and release from hands. drop-kick the p.o.s. across the bay county bridge. install new mp3 capable head unit. |

After having driven on a 650 mile trip over the weekend without any tunes, I'm definitely looking forward to getting something that works in there. None of my other vehicles have radios but they are so noisy that I'm lulled by the native sounds. The Disco is downright quiet in comparison and thus I noticed the lack of a radio. Thanks for the comments/suggestions, Ken |

As for rover doing this free I assume they would. I had this problem with my BMW and they made me come in and did the service for free. They are not able to cross reference the VIN and the radio for an added security step. Glad you are jammin' the tunes again. Marty |
