My dad knows how to weld and he also has a pipe bender. If I talked one of you guys in to giving me the layouts ie angles, measurements, and other ifo? DO you think it can be done? Thanks Bryan |

to do it correctly you would need to build a jig to hold all the pieces in place and you would have to have a very good welder not just some old stick burner. mig may work but from the size of the tube and the thickness you would want to prevent making it too heavy Tig would be the preffered method |

If you're going to do this, I wouldn't try to build an adventure rack exactly. Im sure you could change some things to make it easier to make, as well as being more suited to your needs. |

A pipe bender and a tubing bender are completely different. A pipe bender will kink tubing when it bends. The cheapest decent manual tubing bender I have found with the necessary die will set you back about $500. Add to that the labor and materials, and you're not saving any money. Only advantage would be if you wanted a custom unit or if you were planning on going into production(which is a pain in the ass-believe me, I know). |

No, it is not possible to make an adventure rack. All of the adventure racks in existence were mined from rack-rich south African mineral deposits. Unfortunately, the main rack veins are pretty much played-out, so you'll have to act quick to buy a new one refined from warehoused ore, or just buy a used one from somewhere. |

A friend of mine built one at home with his welder and tube bender, so it is possible. Though I haven't seen it up close, I'm guessing it's nowhere near as tight as Safety Devices' original article. And as Greg stated, if you do in fact have something other than a "tube bender" you're into a lot of money just for that item alone. At that point, you might as well keep a sharp eye out for a used one on DWeb, LRX, ebay, etc... and save yourself a lot of hassle. |

I forgot to mention, I think my friend got all his specs from the parts/accessories book at the local dealership in TX. Those specs would be a lot more accurate/reliable than having one of us go out with a tape measure. |
