hey...i've got a '95 disco here in the US of A and today in north georgia it was high 30's...29-45 to be exact...and mostly cloudy...
well my car warms up a lil' bit but when i drive it for about 20-30minutes it still isn't always in the optimum range....its inbetween the cold dash and the low optimum temp...
i have had to run the a/c to keep the car from foggin' up...but will it cause this...any advice is greatly appreciated...and also while i am @ it...

....and also while i am @ it....
the temp will change...not quickly but slowly over time it will actually go back down a lil' tiny bit while driving...i was always under the impression that it always got warmer...
SO CONFUSED!
thanks,
jess

I had similar symptoms. On a 200 mile trip to Vermont and the temperature gage kept gradually going lower. After 100 miles I realized that I had consumed almost a half tank of fuel! I stopped and put a piece of cardboard in front of the radiator. This helped somewhat but on my return trip the check engine light came on. The code was for right oxygen sensor. When I got home I replaced the thermostat and both oxygen sensors (the right one was completely fouled).

I think that the failed thermostat caused the vehicle to run very rich which in turn fouled the oxygen sensor.

BTW the victim was a '94 Disco I with 120,000 miles.

My advise is to change the thermostat before you have to also replace an oxygen sensor.

Good luck.

yep. sounds like a thermostat. $10 and 15 min. and you are done. just be careful not to tear the cheap paper gasket when replacing. and make sure to install the thermostat the same way the old one came out.

You can use a thermostat and gasket for a small block chevy. You may need to drill a tiny hole in the flange to mimic the "jiggle pin". Look for a 180'F thermostat.

It'll save you big bucks to not use the L-R part.

At least I didn't suggest using a manila folder for a gasket!

As for the thermostat, I just took one off the pegboard that had probably been there for the better part of ten years, if not more. In fact, I think I bought a $5.00 gasket for AB just to compare it with one to a SBC!

Cheap can be good, it leaves more $ for good beer! There I don't skimp, life is too short for cheap beer.

Peace,

blue has to have a pic of this! but follow the large black radiator hose where it feeds into the front/top of the engine. there will be a bolt on either side of it. thermostat is at the end of this hose where it bolts to the engine. very simple task.

how can you test thermostat to make sure it is working at optimum temp. My guage always reads at a touch below halfway. Seems to be running cold but not sure.

Thanks in advance.

not worth "testing" - just replace it if in doubt
