I have a 95 Disco which is my wife's daily driver. In order for me to get the Disco, I need to replace my other car, a 1992 toyota Paseo with 180k miles. I am looking at a 2wd 2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport (V6) with 42k miles. I don't plan on doing any rock climbing, just need a decent 4 door truck for the family. I am getting it for under 9k. Anyone have any thoughts on this vehicle in general?

2wd...not on my radar screen...why not get a 4wd used disco or less the 9k?

Tell me where I can get a 2000 Disco for under 10k and I am there. Seriously though, just want a newer car/truck. Since I already have a 95 Disco, another 4wd here in Florida is not a big deal.

It's an I6 and is a good motor, as is the transmission....2wd? I guess if you really like the rig, but 2wd scares me...heh heh. What trim level are you looking at?

Jorge,

it's a good choice (there was no V6s in jeeps in 2000, so you're looking at a good straight 6).

even with an automatic transmission, you're looking into about 17-18mpg in town, and lower 20s on the highway. just keep in mind that it is still a truck, so it won't handle like a baby toyota, but it's a light truck, so every wind gust or passing big rig will blow it sideways quite a bit.

FWIW, A few months back I saw a 1999 D2 on ebay for a BUY IT NOW price of $11,999.00 It had over 110000 miles on it but it did look clean and all those miles had to be highway. If I wasn't still paying off my own D2 I would have bought a second.

Ive got a Jeep Cherokee 4x4 Laredo, I'll sell you, its got a new paint job and a new engine. Also an aftermarket sound system and upgraded suspension with 31" tires. ( Which are also new).
Getting a D2 this week so I need to get rid of it.

I assume that the engine is a 4.0 I6, then it's the old AMC 238. Great engine made even better with fuel inj. Has decent power AND OK mpg. Just don't get the 4 cyl piece of CRAP!

My personal pref in your price range for same size non-4x4(actually larger interior)is a used turbo t5 volvo wagon (but it won't be a 2000!)

Any reason you wanted a truck? Towing?

yup, its the I6 which is an awesome engine. I owned an older AMC jeep cherokee and put 270k on it with hardly any trouble, sold it to a guy I know and he still drives it now with around 300k.
But..... its still no Land Rover.

I had a 2000 Jeep Cherokee prior to my 98 Disco. Jeep was a good truck. I had no troubles with it although it was brand new. 4.0 and 4x4. There is no comparison between a Jeep and a LR though. In fact, nothing compares to a Land Rover.
