OK. I did a search and it came up empty. Has anyone installed satellite radio in their DII with a STOCK system? Just wondering what adapters) may be needed so I can keep my steering wheel controls. I don't want to run it through my FM section, 'cause I want to keep the digital qualtiy. I have the HK/Alpine system. Just trying to find out 'cause I've got a birthday coming up in Feb.

Also, any input about the providers? Such as XM kicks Sirius' arse, etc? I know Sirius is in financial woes, but how do the services compare?

Greg, I have XM with an Alpine head unit built in XM and MP3 player. Unless its nice clear skies
XM sucks on cloudy days. IF you decide to go aftermarket head unit, just get with remote control, its better than steering controls.

Cheers

Alen, thanks for the info. I want to keep the factory unit, so if I can't fit stellite radio to it, I'll just pass completely. Trying to keep this simple. Good to know about the XM reception, though. Thanks.

Greg, I haven't encountered any weather related reception issues with the XM setup you saw in my truck. And seeing as how GM owns a major portion of XM and is offering it as an available option on some of their newer models, it should be around for quite some time. IMHO...everyone should get XM...you won't be disappointed.

Steve

PS.
I still haven't gotten around to putting that bumper on yet.

Thanks Steve. Any ideas on how to get it to work with my stock head unit?

Unless your stock head unit in the HK setup has an auxiliary input (which I doubt) I think your only option is to use an FM modulator. My roommate has the Sony setup that he transfers between his Miata and his 18 wheeler. Currently he uses the cassette adapter, but he just got an FM modulator from Crutchfield that he needs to install in the Miata. Once he does, I'll let you know if I can tell a difference between his setup and mine...should be within the week.

There is a new XM thing out called SkyFi. It is explained on the website but it appears to be a portable device that can be used in the vehicle and at home. The vehicle kit uses either a cassette adapter or an FM modulator which isn't available just yet. Pretty damn cool.

I've got a Sony transportable unit in my D1 and have had great reception all the time. The unit is mounted in a chassie and wires to the lighter outlet and antenna wire runs under my trim to the outside of the rear cargo door. another wire is connected to a casset adapter that fits into my stock head unit. Also comes with a wireless remote. Unit easily slips out of the chassie and can be used in the home connected to the aux of your stereo with a optional home kit (approx $100). If you drive alot its worth it. XM rules and the comedy stations are always awsome.

OK. Patrick from the Yahoo Group gave me what I was after. Blitzsafe offers a dual mode interface adapter that allows any device to be added that has RCA connections. That way you don't have to use an FM modulator adapter. Model # is LROV/ALP/AUX V.1. You can find it at CDAdapter.com for $89. It's exactly what I was looking for.
