Does anyone know the process of getting LR to repair or replace the corrosion on a 97 D1? I have a bubble on my Right Rear door where the internal framing meets the exterior pannel. Also, I'm in Northern VA, if that matters. |

good luck!! you are suppose to have your truck checked out according to the service plan in your manual. if your manual is not stamped by your dealer then they do not have to honor any rusting issues. some dealers are better than others. or you can wait until your dealer is visited by a LR rep and you can take it up with him. best to call the dealer and see what the next step is. i have a '96 with a little rust in the B pillar and the fighting with them just was not worth it. the rust is not that bad........yet. |

I agree w/ Garrett. "Good luck!" I bought my 96 Disco in Nov '00. It has a little visible rust inside the back door sills and the rear door area. I was still within the corrosion warrenty so I took it in and this is what I learned. The previous owner (actually, it was a lease) had never taken the truck in to LR for ANY service work. Even the recall items and other freebies. Obviously they've done oil changes, etc., but never at a LR dealership and nothing was documented in the LR system. Obviously this means the corosion inspections were not done. So, even after a number of phone calls and letters I wound up with a statement basically to the effect of "next time buy a certified pre-owned Rover." I'm a bit disapointed but can see I don't have much to stand on. At least I spent about $8k less on my Disco than a certified of the same year was going for at the time, so I can't argue too much. FYI, they did take care of the recall items for me while I was there and the dealership was at least professional and courteous to me. Just didn't get the resolution I hoped for. Lawrence, Garrett, Thanks for the input. I know I'm pretty much screwed on this point. I'm just wondering - What exactly does the warranty say? Do you have the text of it? Anyone? |

I had no problem with my '97. I sold it a year ago with almost 100k, but I put on 87,000+ miles before the corrosion showed up. LR gave me no hassle and repainted almost the whole truck at no charge to me. They even picked up a rental car. I never had the disco inspected and I was even pretty bad with maint. In addition, I was out of state at a random dealership...not my selling dealer or service dealer. THERE IS HOPE FOR YOU! |

How long is the corrosion warranty suppose to be good for? I have a 97 with 93K on it. I have a little rust inside the driver's door. Thanks |

Good luck getting LRNA to do anything about the rust. I have the same problem on my '97 (both C-Pillars where they meet the rear fenderwell, and at the bottom of the Alpine windows). I talked to the dealership about it, had the zone rep look at it, called LRNA customer hotline several times, wrote the president of LRNA (!) twice, and even called the Better Business Bureau Autoline. NO LUCK. LRNA refuses to own up to the fact that this is a manufacturing defect and is hiding behind the "fine print" in their warranty. My vehicle had only 29K miles on it when I bought it and noticed the problem shortly thereafter. Am I bitter? WHATTA YOU THINK?!?! Even Chevy, Ford, or J**p would take better care of this kind of problem. I love our Disco, but LRNA needs a serious clue with regards to taking ownership for their products. I'm sorry, I'll get down off of my soapbox now... David |

I took my 1996 Discovery to the Kansas City area dealer in November with the same problem, rust on both rear door posts above the rear wheel wells. They didn't even questions it. Took it to a local body shop for repairs. Vehicle has been out of warrenty for almost 3 years now. Didn't cost me anything except my time and not having the Discovery for about 10 days. I did tell them that I thought my regular service calls in their shop counted as rust inspections. |

You're one of the lucky ones. My dealership couldn't care less about my problem. You'd think that a vehicle company with such a cult following would do all they could to support their products. David |

If your vehicle has been to a dealer every year, but they did not do a corrosion inspection. Explain to them you assumed they were doing this service and they need to honor the warranty. My 94 had nearly 10k of body work done to it because of corrosion, I simply assumed that they were performing this inspection when the vehicle was at the dealership. This is not a solid arguement, but it worked for me. |

Well, I bought mine off a lease - NOT A CERT. Pre-owned one. So I think I'm S.O.L. However, I made an appointment with LR Alexandria, for the end of the month, when the LR Rep is in town. He has to determine who gets to pay for it. Curt - Where are you located? I need to go to your dealer! |

The dealer that took care of everything is Land Rover of Fort Lauderdale. I first went to the dealer in Miami (I think it is Land Rover Dade County) and they were the most rude, lying, cheating, and unprofessional dealership I have ever gone to. They charged me for a lot of work that was never completed. Overall, Land Rover of Fort Laud. is great. They didn't ask any questions. All they did was call me the day before the LR representative came to town. I dropped my disco off, they gave me a loaner, called me at the end of the day to say that my repairs were approved, said they would take my car to the repair shop for me and call me when they were completed. The shop that did the repairs put on a better paint job than the factory. I was very impressed. One problem though...I had a lot of little dings and dents from off-roading that just got painted over. Not that I am complainig, but I wish someone would have told me this because I would have been more than happy to pay to fix them. A new paint job over dents just makes the dents look even worse. Anyways, I also forgot to mention that I bought my disco used and it was NOT certified. |

FYI, my selling dealer was KNAUZ of Lake Bluff, Illinois(great dealership)...LR Fort Laud. wasn't even my selling dealer. |
