I have noticed noise coming from the various pumps, alternator, pulleys, etc, that are on the belt in my '94 Disco. i.e. the water pump (I think, I can't remember for sure.) is making a whirrrring noise. This is not the usual loud fan noise. I was wondering if I should lubricate the pumps, alternator, etc, with anything? What? Silacone spray, grease, graphite?

Thanks

P.S. I just found out that "Simple Green" (get it at Costco) is very good for cleaning you engine, it is biodegradeable and nontoxic, and it works!

Several manufactuers recommend NOT USING Simply Green on aluminum. If it's left on to long it can eat the metal. There were a couple of posts about this...check the archives..

Cheers,

well if it worked cool. my power steering pump started whirring, then started grinding, two days after it was grinding, it bit the big one. easy to replace, and $300 from DAP. just as a warning.
