I have found what looks to be a great 95 Disco. It has only had 1 owner, and all service has been done by the local Land Rover dealer. The truck has 118,000 miles on it. Are there any problem areas I need to check carefully before getting the truck Thanx Brian |

Nt that I know of Brian. I bought my 95 D1 with 100,800 miles on it last Dec and now am at 118k. Nothing major has been an issue. Heater core went out, but not much you could do to 'check that'. Lots of leaks and stuff you always read about on this page. If you are trying to get the price down, try the following, they may not work: 1. Sunroofs - most go off track 2. Rear Windows - alot dont go down 3. Cruise control - Most dont work We recently bought a Z3 and had to get rid of one of the gas guzzlers, well, we kept the 95 D1 because we both (wife and I) love it despite the quirkyness of it. I really do think it will last along time, will take a few late nights of me under it in the driveway along the way, but its real easy to work on, unlike the 97 F250 we decided to sell that gave you no room to turn a wrench and required 'special' tools. THe 95 has been great and I have no regrets getting the last year OBDI vs the 4.0 with OBDII (GEM). |

Brian: Look for rust around the back doors and the alpine windows. Look for leaks from the power steering and the engine. Check that the alternator is functioning correctly. Check swivel ball condition and oil level. Has the fuel pump been replaced? I got mine in April of 2001 with 103K on the clock, I'm the 8th owner... Since then, the mileage is now 168K... Many >1000 mile trips with few major problems. IMHO, the '95 is the year to get. Distributor ignition and good valve train! Good luck and have fun with it. Remember, they like mud nad will quickly leave you stranded if the mud is withheld! Peace, Paul |

I love my 95. Easy to work on. Avoid the sunroof if you can. Had mine since 52k and it now has 105k. I would buy another 95 in a minute. Servicing is a piece of cake and taking care of idiot lights etc is a breeze thanks to discoweb. Mine leaks power steering fluid..so what. I replaced my ps pump, the expansion tank, battery, stepper motor, brake light switch. Nothing major. Cruise Control doesn't work..look for a cracked hose as its the likely culprit. Oh by the way, replacing brake pads is a 15 minute/DO IT YOURSELF job...try that with a GM. |

Brian: Behind the brake fluid resivoir, there are a few small black rubber hoses coming out of the firewall. One of them runs into a plastic T before heading towards the top right side of the engine. Check that area (connection with T) for cracks in the line. If there is a crack, the cruise doesn't work because it probably doesn't hold pressure. I trimmed the damaged cracked hose off and reinstalled it into the T. |

With regard to that T fitting, it's made of plastic (and prone to break when you touch it) and the other day I was in the pet store buying crap for my kid's fish tank and there on the peg in front of me was a solid brass, barbed T fitting (for fish tank air hoses). It was a perfect fit! Total cost to repair cruise control: $1.19 "Ya find yer solutions wherever you find em." -Jim |

Check the front floor plans also. I've seen a few Disco's that had leakage from the front window that dripped under the insulation and ate through the bottom floor pan where the pan meets the transmission tunnel. |

Me to just bought disco '97 with 110,000 kms. for month and has run for about 5,000 kms. everything is okay exept the window seal, the wind noise can be heard while running at a speed of 110 kms. please check the door frame above glass it can be distorted due to impact and cause sound of leaking |

Do you like motor vehicles? I mean really like em? If you do, buy the Disco! I bought mine a year ago and have done part of the list (ps box, windshield(old was pitted) alternator, belts, tune up stuff, new cruise hose, etc. and I've enjoyed working on it. This website makes it easy and fun! If you consider a vehicle a means of getting somewhere or if you have moral objections to fuel mileage in the 10 to 14 mpg range, find a late model Accord or Camry. Good Luck! |

I have put a deposit on said Discovery. Once the guy gets the title from the paying off the little bit he owes his bank I'll have a Discovery. Thank you all for the info. The truck is a 95 with 118,000 miles on it. As stated before all the service, even oil changes, was done at the dealer. The gentleman says it has never been offroad, and from the looks of things I believe it. I checked everything mentioned on here, and all seems well. The only downfall was that he rear ended someone shortly after getting the truck, and the bumper is a little bit misaligned. Not that I need a reason, but I'll get the brush guard and winch that much sooner. I'll post pics as soon as I get it Brian |

One good thing (in kind of a twisted way) about getting a higher mileage truck is that a lot of the shit that goes wrong with them may have already been fixed... |

What fun is that? This is going to be my designated money pit and weekend time waster (or rather hang out around and drink beer while discussing the technical aspects of what should be done) |

Like everyone says, the 95 Disco is a baby to keep and a battle tank to drive off road. I had the ps leak big time, ripped my aluminum rims apart, torn radius arm bracket this weekend, limpy but never have i called a tow truck to get me back to pavement. Also, once you have the service manual on hand, you can fix basic dyi's and maintenance is easier than fixing my nissan car. I had some fix but not that excessive compared my Jap car (under warranty). Like everyone says, it got its imperfections, "easy to break and easy to fix", ol land rover adage. |

If anyone knows of a '94-95 Disco rollover with a straight chassis please let me know. I'm looking to drop my '74 2-door Range Rover body on one as a fast/easy (not exactly cheap) of upgrading my drivetrain. BTW I want a 5-speed only. Thanks in advance. |

I purchased my 95 a year and a half ago w/89K miles. Have had to replace fuel press reg, and surp belt. The only problems have been a rear wiper with a mind of it's own (works sometimes, don't have a dealer in the area) The other minor disappointment in a fantastic auto is the "curling dash syndrome" Hope you enjoy your ride. Sterling. You can get a good repair kit for the curling dash syndrome from a dealership. A right angle screw driver should help put it on. Works/looks great. I'm with you, that was one of those things I just couldn't stand. |

I have a 1995 with 174000 miles on it. I am the second owner. Still original engine and transmission. look at photo gallery of Bonnet Carre. Mine is the green one in about 2 feet of water with roof rack. |

My 95 has been very reliable since I bought it with 49k on the clock (88,888 today) and the following minor problems have been the only trouble: Power steering hoses / fittings leaking (replaced / installed by dealer for $149) Rear driver side window regulator wheel broke (still un-repaired) Front / rear sunroof tracks, boot and rails replaced at 49k (under extended warranty) still rattle nicely! New ABS sensor problem since a long trip in September - these apparently go bad all the time. I've found sensors for $75 a pop if anyone needs them! I regularly degrease and wax the engine as specified by factory, and have not enjoyed the electrics problems that others have mentioned frequently. Some owners report that even an exterior-only carwash has resulted in a temporarily dead Rover! This truck feels solid and reliable off-road, the true expense of ownership is the aftermarket mods you might decide you "need" afterward. Have fun in the "new" Disco, e |
