Planning on upgrading the exhaust system on a V8 4.0 engine disco 1. Would like to remove the cats totally and oxygen senses along with the charcoal filter box. Is it possible? |

The O2 sensors are part of the fuel injection system, you need them for the system to run properly. They give feedback to the ECU on the richness of fuel. It may be illegal, depending on where you live, to disconnect the cats and charcoal filters as they are part of the emmissions system. -John |

I have a 96 disco with 103000 miles. To pep it up a bit I added the "air force one" free flowing intake from Rover Accessories and also changed out the stock mufflers and went with "MagnaFlow". It has a nice low mellow tone, no longer sounds like a sewing machine. I can feel the improved performance, wifey has not noticed or at least not inquired about the change of volume when driving. Here in CA there is a $2500 fine for tampering with Catalytic converters, etc. My free flowing mufflers and air force one intake had a total cost of $575, which is less than the cost of "total exhaust systems" advertised in various catalogs. Go for it. |

The O2 sensors are not a bad thing, the ECU uses the info from them to run the engine efficiently. Eliminating them would make the ECU run in a very rich mode (because too lean will overheat the engine, and cause big damage) and consume lots of fuel. |

Also if you remove the O2 sensors especially the one behind the Y pipe it will make your vehicle sound like a tractor. |

Newer Cats are NOT the Horsepower leaches they once were...if you really want to mess with stuff, replace the Cat's with aftermarket free flow cats and leave the "no-cat" mod to the rednecks with the Pickups and 44" Gumbo Mudders. |
