There is only 1/2 inch difference in diameter you should be fine but probably wont look any different. |

Oh wait.... Stock size is 235, im stupid. So thats an inch difference in diameter, what do you have a D1 or DII??? I would guess you would be fine in a DII but might rub a little in a DI (just a guess don't know from experience) |

jrov, 255/70-16 will fit with no problem. I just put a set of 5 255/70-16 Yokohama Geolander AT+ IIs on my wife's 200 SE-7 with no trimming or rubbing. I did not have to adjust the steering stops either. They are 30.3" in diameter, whereas the stock 255/65-16 Wrangler HP is 29.1". The BFG AT-KOs are about 30.2" in 255/70-16, so they should fit without a problem. They are not big enough to rub on the fenders or anywhere (the D2 has a lot more fender room than the D1). They will not impair your articulation (might even improve it by a miniscule amount)and will not mess up your ABS/ETC/HDC/SLS/ACE/or BMF, as long as all four tires are the same size. I asked the warranty adjuster at my local dealership if they would void the warranty and he said "no". However, be advised the new larger 30.3" spare JUST fits on my unmodified rear tire carrier without hitting the rear bumper. Anything bigger and you will either have to "invert" the rear carrier or drill a new set of mounting holes in it (both mods require pulling the inside door panel and replacing a lot of broken panel prongs). Also our really cool Rhinocerous spare tire cover will no longer fit over the larger spare. For the stock Disco, this is a good tire size to go with. The 2 reasons I did not go with the BFGs is that they are $152/each and the Yoko's were $80 each. Also, the BFG's are only "Q" speed rated (99mph max)and I have exceeded that in the D2. The Yoko's are "S" rated (112mph max) and I am less likely to exceed that rating. Don't stress over that tire size and enjor your new tires. PS. Anyone want to buy a totally unused, cover-protected 255/65-16 Goodyear Wrangler HP and/or a beautiful theft-resistant, zip-over Rhino Land Rover tire cover? I live on the San Francisco penninsula and would prefer to sell them without shipping, "cash and carry". |

jrov, 255/70's will fit a Discovery series II, but not your DI, without a lift and/or some cutting. Just make sure whoever you are asking, knows your rig is a DI, not a DII. |

jrov- Sorry I know I asked which one you have but I see now that you said in your original post that you have a DI and Eric is probably right about the fact that they won't fit unless you lift it or trim (I can't imagine that it would involve TO much trimming though and Kyle's fender spacing method could also work if you are dead set on fitting the tires) Rich- Tire size has nothing to do with articulation (assuming they fit without rubbing and you didn't install longer bump-stops to accomplish this) |

Jrov, Sorry, I missed the D1 part. I have fit 255/65-16s in my stock D1 with no modifications. I also fit the 245/75-16 Dunlop RT's on the stock D1, after trimming the fender lips. Although Kyles bracket fix would probably work just as well. I would (and do) run the 245/75-16 Dunlop RTs instead of the BFG ATs for similar reasons that I stated earlier. i.e. The Dunlop RTs are cheaper at $104 each and are "R" speed rated to 106 mph (the D1 can almost hit that on a good day). Also, the RTs do really well in snow and almost as well as a dedicated "mud" tire in mud. Carter, my comment on articulation refers to the taller sidewall of the 70 series tire, vs the 65 series and it's SLIGHTLY greater flexibility and ability to air-down more off-road. If you don't believe it (extereme example), take a flexy 4x4 and run it on a ramp with 33"x12.5"-15 BFG MTs. Then try it with 305/35-24 BFG G-force TAs (same diameter)and see if it ramps the same. Taller, flexier sidewalls do improve articulation (just like flexier springs do) and I could definately tell the difference (in articulation)on the trail between 255/65-16s and 225/75-16s on my stock D1. |
