I seem to have a demon in my 97 Disco. My dash lights have gone out, but not the clock. The rear lights on the passenger side - the bumper lights and the tail lights as well. I cannot imagine the all these bulbs hit their end of life at the same time, but I could not find a bad fuse. I checked under the dash, with special attention to 11-14, I think.

I guess I should change all the bulbs before going crazy. Does this seem to be something that should send the vehicle to the shop? Any good place in Montgomery Co. ( I would hate to inconvenience LR Rockville with my business)?

"I would hate to inconvenience LR Rockville with my business" That's too funny. I have to thank LR Rockville for getting me started doing things myself. I learned a lot from not going to them. If it's not too far, a shop just opened up in Frederick, on 85. I haven't been there yet, but they did provide me with the code for my radio over the phone, which LR Rockville refused to do. Sorry, I can't help more with the specific trouble you're having.

I believe the fuses for the right side( passenger side) marker lamps are fuse F2 and F8.
I am independant Land Rover shop in Owings Mills, Maryland.

The fuse you're looking for is under the hood, not the dash. The tail lights, dash light, fog lights, glove compartment lights are all on the same circuit. If there's a blown fog light, or short in the glove box it'll blow the fuse every time. I'd check this before bringing it to a dealer.

I had the exact same problem with my 97. If there are no fuses blown, I would suspect that it is the light switch on the steering column. I took mine apart and cleaned the contacts. Voila! its fixed. Try jiggling it and if the dash lights come on/off, i would say thats your problem.

Good luck.

I'm in Frederick MD as well. I can't speak on the new dealers service on LR, however they have been a Jaguar dealer for many years. I've purchased LR parts from Mike their parts mgr. Their folks seem fair and decent to deal with. I'd be curious to hear about service though I do know the Service Managers name is....believe it or not 'Bong'.

Trevor-

What diagnostics program are you using?
I'm having the dealer look in to a check engine light issue down here in NoVa.
I'm guessing that I'll need a second opinion/estimate so I am looking for a shop with a good diagnostic program (Rovacom, Autologic)to decipher my Rover's issues. I don't know of anyone near here that isn't a dealer that does have a diagnostic program.
Any thoughts on which program is better?

Justin,
I use Autologic-have had the unit over a year, but had to send it back to the UK once for repairs. I was talking to Mike Searhoff last week who use to work at Rovers North. He has used both and found the Autologic to have been a better performer.
That being said, what you do with the info accessed by the machine becomes more important than just being able to read the info!

Were there any symptoms besides the ck engine light?

I remeber a vehicle in the shop with a similar condition. It turns out the glove box light was broken and would short-out when the electrical contact touched the metal frame. Probably one of the cheapest fixes on a Rover!

Trevor,

Just checked the fuses again. Not a bad one in the bunch. I guess I will have to give you a call to schedule a visit...
