My wife and I bought a 2002 Disco this weekend from land rover Orlando. It has 4000 miles on it. We were going ot buy a new 2003, but we saved almost $9000 buying the 02. I really like the new headlights on the 03. Has anyone converted to the new hightech looking head lights? I don't think it would be to hard, but they probably want an arm and a leg for the lenses and such. Do you guys have a good line for OEM parts off the internet? Anyone have a brush guard for the front they need to sell?

Also, this thing has a really loud high pitched gear wine coming from the shifter area, please tell me this is not normal? Are they known for trans problems?

Congrats. This forum has a wealth of info for your rover. If you have any questions do a keyword search, then ask. Some people get a little ancy and sarcastic when the same question is asked. There is also a frequesntly asked question list in the tech section. Other than that enjoy the newest part of your family. Yes the transmission whine is normal.

Congrats on the new Rover...

Take a good look at your driveway so you can remember what it looked like pre-Rover.

With two DI's, my driveway looks like Valdez, Alaska after Exxon Captain Boozebag fell asleep in the bridge...

Ah, so I should park it with the dam Harley. Keep the oil concentrated in one spot.

I don't know how much off roading it will see. It is my wife's daily driver, and I have a jeep Wrangler that I 4wheel. We have gone every where in the Jeep, Moab, rubicon, Tellico, Alabama. It has f/r ARB's, 4 to 1 tera low in transfer case, 33x13.50 Baja claws, full skid plates everywhere, 5" jonny joint/ rubicon express lift, full roll cage, 5-point harnesses, Mastercraft seats, quick air II, Rancho 9000"s with remote. So the thought of screwing up another perfectly good vehicle isn't on the top of my list right now, although I do have her talked into a front brush guard and roof rack for the Disco.

warning : roof racks are noisy, even louder than the transfer case whine. Have heard that lights on the top help with the wind noise

roof racks normally don't fit in your average garage either. Have heard of a couple owners causing a little damage on that first entry.

Another incident that I have heard of with the twin sunroofs is people opening them in the garage before a trip and breaking the glass when pulling out.

If the Transfer Case whine is really bothersome you may try some Redline or Amsoil fluid in there. That made mine a tad quieter.
