Hey all, Its started to snow out here in Utah and as usual that brings on some new problem with the Disco Anyway, this time it is a vibration in the rear half of the vehicle, seems to be between 30-45 mph. And it only happens when accelerating, if I coast it goes away...Any one had this issue or have any ideas on what to check?? The driveline seems solid, no real play in it..... Thanks!!!! |

got the same thing with my '94. apparently its common and its most likely the rear diff bearing or something. its not serious, you can drive like that for a while (alledgedly) Disclaimer: Im not a mechanic and my bold claim that "you can drive like that for ages" was purely passing on advice that may be complete BS. In the event your rover drops its lunch due to my misdiagnosis, I accept no responsibility and besides, you dont know where I live. Pete |

Corey, Did you take a look at the Rotoflex? I had similar symptoms: nice vibration from 25-50 mph when accelerating and another vibration at 72mph. Initially I ruled out the rotoflex because it had only 10K miles on it, and visually it looked fine. The other day when accelerating I heard a wierd noise, kind of like a clunk. When I got home I took a quick peek underneath & the rotoflex was starting to shred. |

Corey, if yours is 96 or earlier, my bet is on cracked Rotoflex. i've been there three times already (after 2" of lift, it only lives for about 25kmi). peter |

Maybe you can pull the rear driveshaft, lock the transfer case and drive it around for a couple of days. I'm guessing the noise goes away. When is the last time you changed the fluid in the diff and transfer case? Possible things to check: 1. output bearing on the transfer case 2. ujoint on the rear drive shaft 3. bent drive shaft. 4. rear wheel bearings 5. rear diff bearings (not much experience with this) 6. misdiagnosed VSS 7. Out of round rear tires. 8. Mismatched tire sizes or out of spec tire pressure. Thanks, Mike B. |

Mike, isn't #7 a bitch? you get your tires nicely balanced, put them on, and the thing shudders like mofo. bent driveshaft isn't very likely to produce vibration at this speed, unless it is banged up really bad. peter |

Hey-- Thanks all, finally tore everything apart and it turned out to be my front u-joints, yean I know, it felt like the shudder was in the rear but after I took them down and replaced the tired old things the vibration is gone. Thanks again for all your help!!! |

Peter: Thanks for the critique. Good old #7 has bitten me on several occasions. What really bites is when the tire is round when it's off the vehicle and out of round when on. This happened on the xTerra. The passenger seat shook like crazy at 70 mph. Eventually, we got a couple of new tires out of the deal. Thanks, Mike B. |

Popular week for U-joints. One of my fronts blew up this week as well. Two new precision 344s and all is good again. -P |
