my dashtop is warping up on the corners and coming apart from around the stereo console. i was thinking about taking a heat gun to it to bend it back down, and re-gluing it. how do i hold it in place or does anyone have a better idea? this is on a '94, so no warranty. where would i get a new dash top if it comes to that? i can only find the dash trim kits on the internet.

LR sells a dash moulding kit, that bolts the padding on top of the dash down. I bought it for $70 CDN (~$45 US) but have not installed it yet. It requires a very short phillips scre driver or phillips bit in one of those small ratchetting handles.

thanks, i'll look into that. that is pretty much the only thing still looking tacky that i need to restore on this vehicle. that doesn't help me on the front side where the temp controls are, but at least that will be easier to get to and glue back. i'm also thinking about one of those trim kits now. i've seen a brushed aluminum one that will match my mp3 deck and kind of give it that freelander appearance. the backing on my temp controls and shifter are peeling up as well, so i may as well replace all that while i'm at it.

I just bought and installed the kit (discount rover parts..$57) I used a right angle drill attachment on my dremel tool to drill the holes
with a 7/64" bit I think, The screws have a torx head in my kit and I put them in with a 1/4" ratchet and torx bit. Be careful to layout both pieces before you drill, they are a little long...
I started behind the speedo and worked toward the middle a bit then worked from the opposite side some. I didn't tighten it completely down all at once but took it down (about1" for me)in sreps.
When I was done the moulding was about 1/16" above the window frame area but thats ok. It looks great.
Hope this helps
Gordon

thanks for the help, gordan. i'm printing this up and ordering the kit. of course, now i've got water in my passenger side floorboard again, so it's always something. it's not slimy this time, so hopefully it's nothing to do with the heater core i just installed (although, i'm getting pretty good at accessing it now). ;)
