What is the best way to clean up the blackout part of a blackout hood? Over the weekend I washed my D1 and got a couple of smugges of wax on the blackout part. Nothing seems to be able to get it off.

I don't know if this is true or not, but I've heard peanut butter (smooth, not chunky) will get car wax off of stuff. If it isn't true, I apologize in advance for turning your Disco into a sandwhich.

Worth a try. Nothing I tried would get it out of mine. I just repainted it since it was looking tired anyway.

Those blackouts look damn cool...very Boss Mustang. I'm assuming they're there for the same reason? To cut down on glare?

So Badass

Try something like Pre Kleano (RM Inmont) or Prep Solv (PPG). These are used by body shops to remove wax etc prior to painting. Availible at Autobody supply stores.

Jack, I once asked the same question. To get the pre-cut ones you have to have a Kalihari or XD VIN and the you can order form LRNA for alot of $$.

The next option is to get a large sheet of good black decal (for car use and sun resistant) from a decal shop. You have to know where to look, they can charge alot. I emailed back and forth with a guy on DiscoWeb named Willey Jobert I belive. He said he could get a sheet fot $40. it is square so you would have to cut it then use soapy water (so it won't stick right off) or something to lay it down and position it and let it dry.

I might try the peanut butter thing just for kicks.

Chris--what kind and how did you paint yours?

Danc--I can not find Tommy's link on Any Blackout Ideas. Where is it? How do you get to the archives?

Thanks

you dont need a vin to buy one from a dealer. They are still expensive, but you dont need a vin #.

2 spray cans of Krylon will do it. The Ultra Flat black is nice...or get a lint free roller and can of matte black Krylon and it'll give you a Rhino liner-ish effect...or use a roller that produces lint and get the pubic hair effect

As for removing car wax, Dawn dishwashing detergent works amazingly well.

I'd try that before the peanut butter.
