What is the highest wattage bulb rating that I can put into the stock reflector without melting the harness and/or reflector? |

The stock wattage is about as high as you want to go. There are some people that have gone a long time with higher wattage bulbs, but you run a higher risk of blowing the switch out. If you're planning on running higher wattage bulbs, you should run some relays or just buy a new harness. |

i use the ipf magic bulbs that use 55w and output 90w. so no worries on melting anything, or overloading the electrics. nice bright white light that is vastly better than stock. a pair of bulbs should run about $60-65 delivered. for about 15mins after use they glow blue or green casting a erie and haunting glow LOL! if you have trouble finding them, let me know. steve |

What about the H4 from PIAA? I've heard good things about them but do you need a relay oy to do anything special? |

I have run the PIAA Xtreme white in my RRC for almost a year with no problems. I even upgraded the bulbs in my Hella 550 Fogs to match. Much better than the stock light. I don't recall the wattage, I think they are something like 55/65 draw and 125/135 output. http://www.piaa.com/h4bulbs.html Paul |

The stock circuits are 10A each for high/low beam and there are separate circuits for l&r side. So theoretically you could run 120/120W bulbs. Since you want to leave some reserve so the circuits last, a 110W would be the highest I'd go. I have had 85/100w bulbs in mine for almost 2 years now. The PIAA 65/85W bulbs should be really good in there. |

You shouldn't be able to melt down your switch, as there's relays in the circuit - at least for the Jay type, but I guess Romulus should have as well, only controlled by the Multi Function Unit. Frode |

Milan, While your probably correct, there's another reason to use relays. In the standard circuit with the switch, you can experience some voltage drop because of the switch. The relay will allow more voltage to get through to the bulb, thus giving more output without changing anything else. Another reason is simply piece of mind. Knowing the reputation of the electronics of the LR, I'd rather not stress it. |
