In the past I have had trouble with my lifters not getting oil to them and hence the oil light comes on, and a ticking noise occured. the root of the problem was gulling in the oil pan, which meant cleaning it out, and cleaning the engine (not a cheap experience). i was told the problem should not resurface as long as i changed the oil every 3,000 miles, which i have been doing consistantly. 12,000 miles later, the oil light is back on, and the ticking noise is back. ironically this was 200 miles after having my oil changed the last time. is this a common problem? what solutions can anyone offer? what can i do to prevent this from happening again? |

My lifters just had to be replaced (under warranty) and I was told there was a lot of sludge in the oil pan and that I needed a valve job (not under warranty), otherwise the lifters would continue needing replacement. Interesting that the manual says to change the oil at 7500 miles (unless I'm reading it incorrectly), but everyone recommends 3500 miles. |
