I don't have a Discovery now (I have a '91 J**p XJ), but I am considering a new '03 S. I ordered an Atlantic British catalog to browse through, and was _appalled_ at the high prices. I certainly hope they are not typical for all the LR vendors. Their prices are _at least_ 20-40% higher than the SAME parts from different catalogs. I am comparing prices for winches, Garmin roof racks, etc - since there are other suppliers for those sorts of bits, I am not too worried. But the price of the oem stuff like alternators and engine parts is frightening. Is it considered standard procedure to buy a bumper to bumper extended warranty for these vehicles, and if so, what about warranty denial due to off-road mods? I would appreciate hearing your comments. Convince me to buy a Disco! |

John: AB and RN are probably the highest priced parts houses. As far as repair parts for our vehicles, many of the components of our vehicles were sourced from other tier one suppliers and as a result, they share many parts with many domestic vehicles. Some parts are available from your local NAPA and some even at Advance, Autozone, or Pepboys. If you have a Jeep and wheel it, go out for a drive in a Disco and see how much more easy things are in a Rover than a Jeep. Only once have I seen a Jeep do something easier than a Rover and my truck made it up the hill right behind the Jeep (ok,maybe it did take me a few tries, but I made it!). One last comment concerning prices-STAY AWAY FROM THE DEALER! They are VERY expensive! Paul |

John, That appalling feeling never goes away. It is especially bad when comparing the price of Rover parts to Jeep parts. Its all part of the the Land Rover experience. Some Rover owners buy extended warranties, some don't. Its no different than any other brand as far as that goes except of course how much extended Rover warranties cost. And like any other brand, you run the risk of having your offroad mods make it easy for claim denials. MH |
