What's the opinion? Are these ladders useful or for looks? Has their use caused any damage?
Thanks

They only cause damage when the bumper flies off the Series that you're pulling out of the mud and hits it...well I guess then that's the bumpers fault, not the ladder....

MAR fun...

I use the spare wheel to climb up on, the roof rack provides a nice hand hold. I think it is easier than those little ladder rungs.

I find my ladder to be very valuable when mucking about in the mud and just when you're about to slide beneath your truck, you grab ahold of the ladder and calmly and with aplomb walk around your truck.

I also think the trucks look naked without the ladder.

Mr. Bailey beat me to it. The spare tire makes a great ladder. I do think the ladders look pretty cool though.

Do the ladders hold the weight? I worry about dimpling or bucking the metal near the licence plate/door handle.

I am about 200lbs, and I use the ladder and spare to get up and down from the rack.

It has held its own so far.

I think the weight is mostly on the top of the door. Mine has had no problems with me going up and down it carrying gear.

I find my ladder usfull as well. I use it to climb up and load the roof rack etc... It hold weight fine with no problems.
Now thats the ladder it self, but the added stress of me climbing up and down for the last 2 years on the back door has caused it to not shut properly and leak in a torential down poor. This is acually a problem with all of them as the door is heavy and it has a spare tire on it and swings out so its not really a result from having a ladder.

I find it easiest to use the ladder to climb up and put heavy stuff on the tire (like cases pull of tools and....uhhh....strollers). I think it would be more of a pain with just the tire.

that spare tire carrier aint meant to support your weight. I have a ladder and I love it. first of all, you get to use rivnuts to install it so how could it not be fun. second of all, i don't weigh much but I know i need the ladder. you jump up on that spare tire enough times and you'll find out the hard weigh, it's not that strong.

anyone else a huge fan of the ladder-but-no-rack look?
I suppose that's for if you have coachmen, so they can ride on the back bumper and open the doors for you.

Jack,

I have a ladder and a rack, but don't keep the rack on the vehicle because it doesn't allow me to park in the garage. I mount the rack when we're ready to go long distance traveling. Doesn't take much effort. So, I guess, I must qualify for the ladder-but-no-rack look.
