IMHO, autos are usually better off-road than manual trannies. Usually the ZF is thought of as a better tranny than the R380, which is better than the LT77. So, most people don't actually switch them. Not that you can't, but.... When running a diesel, the manual keeps it from being a complete dog; but with a V8, IMHO you're better off w/ the auto. IMHO, YMMV, etc. etc. etc... -L |

Looking at it, not much. There is already a hole for the clutch, the engine is in the same space. the only thing is that there are different ECUs on the 4.0 is that terminal. I don't think so. Anything with an LT230q I don't think will take an R380 without mods. I have this crazy idea that I want to put one in the rangie. But WHY? Just buy one with the R380 in it to begin with. Ron |

I've got an R-380 with about 58K miles on it that I swapped out of my '95 Disco. The 2nd and 3rd synchros are a little rough (due to my wife's speed shifting, no doubt) but otherwise seems to work fine -- doesn't jump out of gear. I'd sell it for $300.00 plus shipping. ---Norm |
