Stop me if this already exists somewhere, but...

Wouldn't it be nice if we all had access to a full list of the parts in our trucks, their estimated service life, and required maintenance? Some list, or system to allow us to come up with our own maintenance schedules, without having to rely on Land Rover, or our dealers?

Does this exist somewhere? I know my dealership has the service schedule printed out, and they even faxed it to me, but it seems woefully incomplete, and short-sighted.

If this doesn't exist, and all us DIY'ers are just guessing at our maintenance schedules, would any of you people like to work together with me to build such a thing?

I'm envisioning a database of vehicles, each vehicle with it's list of parts, each part with it's estimated life-span, and list of regular service (oil change, etc.).

Then, someone could go to this database, enter their vehicle, it's age, and how close to the estimated service life you want to get (conservatism), and it could build you a service schedule, tuned to your truck and needs.

Interesting? Overkill? Redundant?

Something I would be very interested in and have thought about. Granted not to the degree you have developed it. It could be started very simply with just a list of service intervals in the tech section...(i.e. "Oil Change @ 3000 miles)

Actually, I already have a database schema for how it would work, and I think it would take me about 5-10 hours of work to build a web-based system that would run on user contributed data. Pretty simple actually, but I want to know if it would be used!

Sounds cool. It's a neat project somewhat along the lines of something I've been thinking might be useful.

Oh yeah - http://carpoint.msn.com and a few other people have web-based services that email you when your vehicle is due for service, but I don't think it's to the extent that you're talking about.
