Hey guys I know there have been a lot of discussions on tires lately so i'll make this brief. For anyone interested the above mentioned tire fits great on a STOCK Disco II. And yes thats with the original bumper and fog lights. I have heard dozens of questions on whether they will fit or not. Any bigger and you should or will need a lift. They are awesome in the snow!

Tony

How are they in the snow compared to the stock Michelins?

Thanks
Carl

Carl,
They are 100% better! I found the stock michelins to "grip" a little late. They worked ok for the snow but not nearly as good as the geolanders. The channels in the tires are very deep and clean thenselves well in the snow. Haven't tried them in mud yet as everything is frozen solid around here. -Tony

I second Tony's posting. I have been using the Geolander tire since August 2001 and have found them to be a great tire at a great price. Off-road traction has been superb and last winter's limited experience with snow was very positive. Good snow traction. On the highway, at 80mph, the tires are relatively quiet and easy to deal with for hours at a time.

I fitted a set right before the 2001 Roverfest and drove all the way up to Vermont without any problems or excessive road noise.

Tony,

Where near Mans-Vegas are you. I live in Portsmouth. Where did you pick up the tires, and how were they priced. Can't seem to find anyone here who carries the Geo's except NTB who has to order them. I'm considering going up 2" and getting a set of 265's.

I agree with all the post. I just bought a new/used 99 disco II that has Michelins LTX's on the truck now but can't wait to put Geolanders on the Disco. I had them on my old truck (95 Isuzu Trooper) and loved them. They are great in both mud and snow and did not make any overly excessive highway noise. The tread pattern also looks great.

I have installed close to 35 sets of the Yokohama Geolandars on customer Land Rovers for many years-including Jay Caragay's Disco as well as my own Disco- and I still recommend them strongly. They are great in the snow, very good in the mud, reasonably priced- check-out Tirerack.com- and long wearing.
I have also been recommending Kumho Road Venture M/T -235/85/16 are about $85 each. Quiet and capable, don't know about longevity yet. I have installed them on Gary Chalk and Bill Bettridge's Discos ( and mine soon)and they have given very positive feedback so far.
There is my .02

George,
A lot of places can get them if you check on the Yokohama web site ..... but thats not what you want to hear. Check Town Fair Tire in Manchester. Its located near the Home Depot on South Willow Street. I 'll save you the trouble of calling around. Most places were $577.xx for 4 geolander A/T II's -mounted and balanced. Town Fair was $480.xx. They were quick about qetting right to work no waiting. Hope this helps. If not e-mail me there is another place that can get them cheap....I just have to talk to the guy next time I see him. You guys obviuosly have a lot of experience with tires. I have a set of new BFG ATs. How are they in the Snow? I'll be taking the truck to Scandinavia in January, and I'll be needing a good snow tire...:) I'll be supplementing with chains of course, but still... My main question is should I get s set of yokos or will the AT perform similarly? What about a dedicated snow tire, what would you guys recommend? I have a set of extra rims just begging for snow tires...:)

Thanks
Carl

Hi Carl,

I have a set of BFG AT's. I just bought them before this winter and so far they're great (btw I live in western Canada - typically lots of snow, probably similar to where you're going). I've gone off-roading with them too a few weeks ago and never had a problem. The tires dug into the snow and got me up and down the trails with ease. Personally, I think a good set of AT tires will be more than sufficient and no need for a dedicated snow tire, unless you want them. It's also a bit of a PITA to have to switch tires too when winter is over. I've heard great things about the Yoko's too. A fellow had a set on his Jeep where I was off-roading and he got through everything fine too. Although on some of the inclines, it took him a couple tries to get up the hill in the snow but I think it was due to his truck being so light (he had a YJ or something like that) but otherwise, he's very happy with his Yoko Geolanders.

If you have an extra set of rims, you might want to consider some MT tires instead. Between the AT and MT tires, you shouldn't have any problems.

Carl - To play devils advocate with Alan, I had a second set of rims and dedicated them to road use. I replaced my Wranglers last month with the Pirelli Ice and Snow tires and have been extremely impressed with them. We have had a fair bit of snow and ice here this month and these things are quite impressive. As an aside, I had them out in some pretty deep mud/slush/snow on a trail a few weeks ago with absolutely no difficulties. This may confuse your decision but IMHO go with a set of OR and then some dedicated rims for the road.
